SS 8 - Yesterday students took the STAR reading assessment.  There was no homework.  Today, we reviewed the Industrial Era by brainstorming the big ideas.  We then discussed ideas for songs.  Flocabulary starts tomorrow!  No homework tonight.

APUSH - Yesterday, we discussed the Labor movement in America by reviewing selected documents. Today, we discussed the Populist Movement.  Tomorrow, we will start to research our individuals for our dinner party.

Friday, January 11th

SS8 - Today we finished reading excerpts from Sinclair's The Jungle.  We were able to look at working conditions, plight of the poor, political machines, child labor, unemployment and the meatpacking industry.  No homework.

APUSH - Today:

1. We handed out the EIGHT invitees to the turn of the century Dinner Party.
2. We read short primary documents regarding New Immigrants - then reported back to class.

SS 8 - Assembly in afternoon.  In the AM class we watched a book series on Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.  We also viewed some examples from Flocab.

APUSH - Today we looked at documents demonstrating the pro-business attitude during the Gilded Age.  We set up tomorrow's work where we will focus on the New Immigrants in America.

SS8 -- Today we finished our discussion of the Labor Movement in the late 1800's by breaking down the Knights of Labor and the American Federation of Labor.  We then took an 18-point quiz.

HW - Read Ch. 22, Section 2 "The Progressives"


APUSH - Today we discussed laissez-faire capitalism, the Gospel of Wealth and Social Darwinism by analyzing supporting documents.  We finished class by reviewing a political cartoon centering around the influence big business had on government.
