Thursday, October 10th

Social Studies 8 -->  Today we watched PBS's clip on the Battle of Manassas/Bull Run.  We also, discussed and watched a clip from the History Channel explaining how new technology in weaponry and old tactics of battlefield fighting collided and caused the Civil War to be quite gruesome.

HW -      1. Read Section II Chapter 17 (page 490)
               2. Make sure to hand in Slavery Glog on Friday.



APUSH -  Today we reviewed Washington's presidency and started a discussion on the development of  political parties.

Wednesday, Oct. 9th

Social Studies 8 - Today we discussed the beginning of the Civil War.  We discussed the the following chain of events:

Election of 1860 > Southern Secession > Fort Sumter Bombarded

We focused on Governor's Sam Houston's message to his fellow Texans on why they should not secede.  They did not listen.

HOMEWORK:

1. Print out of glog due Friday
2. Sam Houston quote analyzed (hand-out)
3. Rd. Chapter 17, Section I page 486


APUSH - Today we discussed the US Constitution, focusing on its seven articles and their purposes.  We then discussed the presidency of George Washington.

Tuesday, October 8th

Social Studies 8 - Today students put the final touches on their slavery glogs.  Students were given an example glog and the grading rubric which acted as a checklist.  The glog should be finished by Thursday.  This was our last class day on the glogs.  A printout of the glog is due FRIDAY.

Homework - Work on glog

Tomorrow we start our study of the Civil War.

APUSH - Today we discussed the Constitutional Convention and the main compromises agreed upon at Philadelphia.  We viewed a few video clips as well.

Monday, October 7th

Social Studies 8 - Today students worked on their slavery glogs.  We will spend one more day on them Tuesday.  A checklist/rubric is on my blog.  Tomorrow students will receive an example glog to assure they follow the checklist.

Many students did NOT hand in today's homework.  Please do so ASAP.  10 points lost for each late day.  

Tonight's homework --> Work on Glog  (hopefully you have devised a plan with your partner)
