Thursday, Oct. 31st

Social Studies 8 - Today we introduced the idea of Reconstruction.  Students first worked collaboratively to consider what challenges the country faced after the Civil War.  Then we gathered those ideas as a class to springboard into the our new unit.

Homework - Read Section 1, Chapter 18 "Early Steps Toward Reunion," pg. 516

APUSH - Students worked with partners today to finalize glogs and 2-3 page papers.  Tomorrow we will record.

Social Studies 8 - Today we viewed the glogs as we listed to the slavery podcasts.  Quite impressive!  No homework tonight but a couple of reminders:

1. Test will be next week - Students have review sheet
2. All reading through Chapter 17 should be completed


APUSH - Today we took the Key Terms Quiz for Unit III.  We then finished our short presentations and reviewed the effects of the War of 1812, paying particular attention to Henry Clay's "American System."  Test tomorrow on Unit III.

Test Clue - Many students missed that James Madison was the "Father of the Constitution."  Thomas Jefferson was not even at the Constitutional Convention, he was out of the country.

Social Studies 8 - Today we reviewed the Siege of Vicksburg and Sherman's March to the Sea.

APUSH - Students presented today on the early challenges our new nation faced.  Tomorrow, we will finish presentations and take Unit III Key Terms Quiz.  Unit III Test on Wednesday.

Social Studies 8 - Today we reviewed some key battles of the Civil War and paid close attention to the Battle of Antietam.  We then covered the Battle of Fredericksburg.

APUSH - Today we discussed Adams' Administration and started to look at Thomas Jefferson as president.  

Students need to pick up reading on the Louisiana Purchase since most will not be in class tomorrow due to PSATs.  Please read the Ellis chapter for Thursday.

Social Studies 8 - Today we discussed the North's 3-part plan, the Anaconda Plan, to win the Civil War.  We then discussed the clash of the Ironclads and the Battle of Shiloh as part of the Civil War.  We watched a 5 and 10 minute clip on the two battles.

HOMEWORK - None - Enjoy the long weekend!





APUSH - Today we discussed the Development of Political Parties and watched a 10-minute clip from Joseph Ellis' Founding Brothers.
